Hi, my name is Marion Anthi. I’m an actress, playwright, and educator, and I’m raising funds to bring my newest theatrical project to life: “I, Beba” — a powerful and emotional theatre production that sheds light on gender-based violence, the silence that surrounds it, and the strength it takes to break that silence.

“I, Beba” is not just a play — it’s a voice for all the women who were never heard. The story follows Beba, a woman who grows up in a conservative, post-war Greek society where women’s roles were rigid, their freedoms limited, and their pain hidden behind closed doors. Inspired by true events, this performance explores themes of abuse, social pressure, stigma, internalized guilt, and ultimately, survival and self-worth.

Though set in the past, Beba’s story is sadly still relevant today — echoing in every woman who feels unseen, unheard, or unsafe.

This project is deeply personal to me. As a woman, an artist, and a teacher, I’ve seen how trauma, especially domestic and emotional abuse, leaves long-lasting scars. I’ve also seen the healing power of theatre — how it can awaken hearts, open conversations, and give people the courage to speak, share, and change. With «I, Beba», I hope to do exactly that: start conversations that matter and reach audiences that need it most.

We plan to premiere the play in Athens, followed by performances in Sydney, and then take it on tour to schools, women’s organisations, senior centres, and small theatres across Australia — and eventually to audiences around the world.. After each performance, we will offer open discussions with psychologists, educators, and survivors, creating safe spaces for dialogue, reflection, and support. Additionally, we are preparing educational materials for young audiences, teachers, and families to extend the conversation beyond the stage.
